Ephata

The vampire demon of Aramaic lore is called Ephata and appears as a shadow.
This one of the weirdest creations I’ve ever heard of. Ready?

When the body of the deceased doesn’t decay properly the soul is forced to stay with the body and is bound to to this world.
CreepyBasement

At night the spirit leaves its body and searches for humans to drain of blood. If its corpse is destroyed the Ephata will be released from the binding and can move to the next world.

Pigs

Yep pigs are what I’m going to talk about today.

Killing a pig on October 17 -the feast day of St. Ignacius- and smearing the pigs blood on your body will keep vampires away from you.
Smearing pig lard on the corpse is believed to keep it from becoming a vampire.

Why?
Wallachian lore says vampires prefer to shape-shift into a pig.

Kozlak

What happens when a child is weaned before its time and dies as a result?
In the Dalmatin region of Croatia the dead child becomes a a Kozlak.

4.2.7

The Kozlak raises from the dead and acts like a poltergeist breaking and throwing kitchen items, shape-shifting unto a bat or carrion animal. It will attack live stock and feed from it.

While in a solid but nondescript form it can be hypnotized by a branch of Hawthorn. While in a trance it can be stabbed in the heart with a branch of Hawthorn or a ritually blessed daggar. Its best if a Franciscian monk does the killing.

Vampire Cure???

According to eastern European folklore a vampire’s blood is magically potent and very dangerous.

When vampires were exhumed to be staked or cut up, the living had to be extra careful not to get sprayed.

blood

It was believed that the living would go insane or die instantly.

Vampire corpses were covered, before staking to protect the living. On lookers stood at a distance.

Vampire blood would be used as a charm or amulet, and as a curse.
A common belief was a vampire’s blood could heal. Vampire victims would cover themselves with a vampire’s blood or drink it. To be released from the curse.

Yes! Drink Vampire’s Blood.

According to accounts this remedy didn’t work. Those who tried this remedy only became vampires themselves.

Another way to cure vampirism is with ashes.

Blackthorn

Blackthorn.
Black thorn is a wood said to be effective in slaying vampires.
Blackthorn’s supernatural power is believed to come from its association to Christ and the crown of thorns he wore during the passion of the crucifixion. It’s believed only Blackthorn can kill Lastovo Island vampires.

If placing a stake over vampires grave it will prevent the devil that inhabited the corpse from escaping. It also helps vampire hunters to beat the devil with it.

Eretik

Eretik
Russian folklore believes any dying person can be possessed before death a witch will reanimate the possessed body. The body will become an Eretik or “heretic”.
Other ways of becoming an Eretik are living life as a heretic, selling your soul to the devil, sleeping on a grave, or making inappropriate noises in a bathhouse.

As soon as the vampire is created, it begins its hunt of consuming flesh and blood first from its family, then from others. Its feedings will make people die.
Eretiks have the most vicious look that anyone who sees his angered expression will die.
It lives in dry riverbeds where it routinely performs Black Masses. It’s most active at night and in spring and fall.
While this vampire is, a living being it must be killed by traditional vampire killing methods: a stake through the heart followed by beheading and burning the remains to ash.

The area has added dog rose into its vampire lore. Gathering the petals and throwing the blooms and at a vampire will force it to stop and count them.

You can also string the blooms up and wrap the garland around a coffin to keep a vampire from rising.
